This 1953 Selmer Super Balanced Action alto saxophone is in near mint condition with the original Chesterfield case and neck with matching serial number. There are no dents, the original lacquer is at 99%, only worn at the usual touch points, and there are very few scratches. (See pics)
The current owner bought it from the original owner in 2015. At that time it had the original pads from 1952 were on the horn. You can identify original pads as at that time the horns were padded in Franch but the lacquer sprayed on in the US, to reduce import duties, resulting in some lacquer overspray on the edges of the original pads.
The horn was repadded in 201 by Jeff Dykstra of Allegro Pro Shop in Glendale AZ, the best repairman in the Phoenix area. The original pads were saved and stored in a plastic bag in the accessories compartment of the case.
The horn plays with a warm dark sound from low Bb to high F and the altissimo register pops out great.
These SBA altos are considered by many pros to be among the best alto saxophones ever made.
